Disclaimer: I don’t own GW or any of its characters. I do own the story though, so please don’t steal it.

A/N: This is my first attempt at a Heero/Relena relationship. Just so ya know, I don’t care for Relena too much, so Heero’s thoughts about her in 195 are kinda mine. I do, however, like her better in EW. I gave Heero a slightly different personality because he seemed more open in EW, so you know, I thought hanging around the braided baka (one of my favorite terms for my fav character Duo) would give him a sense of humor. I can write funnier stories, but this was supposed to be a romance (but halfway through grilled cheese popped into my head).

NOTE: If you want to use my fic (or any fic), please read my policy at my website: http://www.geocities.com/little_rock871002/index.html. All of my finished works are posted there, and all that stuff. Trust me, what I’m asking isn’t a lot!

I intended to make this a really sappy romance story, but Dende knows I can’t write those. It ended up being kinda cheesy with Heero, a waitress, and a grilled cheese sandwich. I wrote this in a whole fifteen minutes, so if you’re wondering why its kinda rushed then there’s your answer.

R&R, please!!!!

Summer Daze

Relena sighed and blew a strand of hair out of her eyes, leaning back in her chair. Like usual, she was filling out paperwork after paperwork, duties of the vice foreign minister. ‘Aren’t I lucky?’ she thought sarcastically, looking at the ever growing papers, filled with complaints and compliments of citizens. Every one of those papers needed to be responded to personally, and then there was the meetings…the list went on and on.

Tired and needing to focus her eyes on something other then forms, Relena stood up and walked over to the large window overlooking the Sanc Kingdom. It was a beautiful July night. This was a season for romance and summer fun, but of course the inspirational Miss Relena wasn’t a ‘commoner’ and had more important duties then having a life.

At that thought, Relena let out a dry laugh. She was seventeen, for crying out loud! Not some old fashioned politician like all the others. She wanted love and adventure, like the old days. Her idea of fun now was counting the cracks in the ceiling or balancing a pen on her nose. And when was the last time she actually hung out with friends? Five months, six? Her friends had lives; Dorothy was head of the Romafeller Foundation, a job she loved. Hilde had married Duo and they had a business. Quatre, well, he was the second most important person in the world, next to her of course. Trowa and Catherine were living in L3 still. Millardo and Noin had a baby boy. Wufei and Sally were Preventers. Une and Mariemeia were living in Paris, and Heero…well…she didn’t know where Heero was.

She hadn’t heard from Heero in nine months, since he had showed up to protect her from a terrorist attack, then had disappeared into the shadows again. Even Duo had no clue where he was, and Duo didn’t lie. Heero… Relena pressed a hand to the window and closed her eyes. She missed him.

"Amelia, cancel all my appointments today," Relena instructed as she walked by.

"But Miss Relena, you have the conference in Sector 35d and a personal meeting with Mr. Maxwell from L2 about shuttle repairs, and those letters need to be sent out today…" her secretary said in a panic state, looking at her agenda, "I don’t think you can afford to take the day off, Ma’am."

Relena stopped and put a finger to her chin, "Hmm…move the conference up to Thursday, I’ll get the letters out tomorrow morning, and if Duo needs to see me that badly he can track me down. I’ll be in town shopping. I don’t think I can afford to work myself into a frenzy. Oh, and I don’t want any bodyguards near me, okay?"

Amelia nodded and gulped then got on the phone. Relena put on her shades and walked out of the mansion, waving to the gardener as she left the Peacecraft property. Nothing was going to ruin her day. She’d make sure of it.

First stop was an ice cream stand; because it was hot out there, around 100 degrees. She wasn’t used to life without an air conditioner. After paying for the vanilla cone she strolled down Main Street, where all those cute little shops on TV were located. That was her favorite activity as Relena Darlian, window-shopping. And window shop she did. And, not being able to help herself, she bought a few dresses (which I will say were not politician attire). ‘This has got to be the best day off my life,’ she thought as she turned the corner…and ran straight into somebody, knocking her boxes on the ground.

"Oh! I’m sorry," she apologized as she picked up her dropped parcels. When she straightened she was staring straight into cobalt blue orbs, partially covered by unruly chocolate colored bangs. "Heero?!" She asked in disbelief, tracing her finger along his cheek to make sure he was real. He scowled. Yup. It was him alright.

He turned to leave but Relena put a hand on his shoulder. "Wait, Heero, wait!" she pleaded. He turned around with confusion in his eyes. She cleared her throat, "Would you like to have lunch with me?" He pursed his lips as if in deep thought. After a few painful seconds he nodded his head slightly.

Relena led Heero to a little café Duo had taken her to a while back. They were seated and Heero stared out the window while Relena drooled at him silently. "May I take your order?" a waitress asked.

"I’ll have a green salad, clam soup, and a turkey sandwich with iced tea," Relena told her politely.

The waitress looked over at Heero, who was still staring out the window, "How ‘bout you honey?" Heero glanced at her and scowled. "I said ‘Whatcha be needin?" Heero narrowed his eyes and pursed his lips. He and the waitress had a staring contest for a few minutes before Relena stepped in.

"He’ll have…" she began.

"Grilled cheese," Heero interrupted before turning his attention back to the window.

"Grilled cheese?" Relena and the waitress repeated simultaneously. Heero nodded and the waitress blinked.

"Come on honey, you knows you won’t be wanting that. Now what can I get you for?"

Heero gave her a death glare, "I said grilled cheese."

"Now’s you gots to eat something ‘sides cheese on bread, honey, you’re a growing boy…"

"Just get me the god damned grilled cheese, Lady!" Heero snapped. The waitress clicked her tongue disapprovingly, "Nows, you watch your tongue, Young Man, after alls you hanging out in the Sanc kingdom, and you’re with a cultured and polite lady heres, so you needs to be acting more gentlemanly like..."

Heero jumped up, obviously getting aggravated by this woman’s persistence, "Listen lady, all I want is grilled cheese! Therefore, it is your job to carry out my order without badmouthing me!" he growled in his usual tone. The waitress scoffed and walked off, mumbling about ungrateful youths of the world today.

Heero sat down and ran a hand through his bangs. Relena held a hand to her mouth and tried futilely to control the giggles. Heero glared at her, "What?!"

"I’m…sorry…Heero," Relena managed to get out between giggles, "But…that…was so…unlike you!" He blinked.

"I’ve changed Relena," he replied, leaning back, "And obviously you have too."

"Hmm?"

"Well, you’re more mature then you were two years ago," he explained, "You were annoying, bossy, and babyish back then."

"Gee…thanks," Relena retorted dryly, rolling her eyes. Heero smirked. "So…Heero, what are you doing here? I thought you lived in the colonies."

He looked around as if to make sure nobody was listening, "I was bored so I came to earth. And I ended up here last week."

"Oh? I thought you’d be here saving the world or something." He shook his head. "Are you moving here?"

Once again he shook his head, "I’m probably going to leave tonight. Might stay at the braided baka’s."

"You keep in touch with Duo?" she asked cheerfully, trying not to show the disappointment of losing him again.

"No. I can only take small doses of that baka." She nodded understandably.

"Well, he’s in town tonight, so you could get a ride with him," she informed, trying to make conversation.

He twitched and looked out the window, "Um…How’s life?"

Relena smiled. He was actually trying to socialize. "It’s pretty good. I have all the money I could ever want, a nephew, I’m a princess…" he looked at her, intently listening as she continued, "But I don’t really want to be a politician all my life. I want my life to be like it is now, hanging out with my friends at a cheap restaurant on a hot day…" She paused, realizing that she was pouring her heart out to Heero, and she didn’t even really know him. "…But mostly I’m happy," she saved herself.

By this time their food had arrived, and the waitress had left without a word after Heero gave her a famous death glare every time she opened her mouth.

They ate in silence, Relena occasionally stealing glances at the mysterious Heero Yuy, who seemed content eating his grilled cheese. Heero’s voice surprised her, "This is not grilled cheese. It’s freakin’ barbecued. Do they not watch this stuff or do they read a book while they’re cooking it?" He looked at her with a twinkle in his eyes and she couldn’t help but laugh.

"I think you’ve been hanging around ‘the braided baka’ and Hilde too much!"

He shrugged, "I guess they wear off on you after all those whoopie cushion tricks."

Half an hour later the waitress walked up and held the check out. Relena reached for it, but to her surprise Heero took it and paid, even left the waitress a quarter for a tip. "How about a movie?" she suggested, tucking her honey blonde hair under her hat so she wouldn’t be recognized. He shrugged his shoulders and they watched a flick about Vietnam.

"That’s not even remotely possible," Heero commented as a muscle-blessed ‘Buffe Guye’ jumped out of a plane without a parachute and landed gracefully on his feet.

"It is for Trowa," Relena pointed out. He grunted. The rest of the movie was followed by remarks and Heero threatening a little boy kicking his chair from behind. Relena got yelled at for laughing at Heero’s behavior.

Two hours later they were strolling in the park in front of the mansion. Relena noted that Heero was holding his arm. "What’s wrong?"

"Huh?"

"Your arm."

"A skylight fell when I was on a mission and cut my arm."

"Lemme see," she demanded sharply, grabbing his hand. He pulled back and turned away his injured arm, scowling at her. "Heero, just let me fix it."

He narrowed his eyes and rolled up his sleeve, revealing a deep gash right above his elbow. She took out a hanky and treated his injury. "Reminds you of the old days, ne?" he commented, glancing down at her as she worked. She nodded and was surprised he remembered. He walked her to the gate of the mansion.

"Well, I guess this is good-bye, Heero," Relena held out her hand and he shook it awkwardly, "Thanks for lunch and the movie. Until next time."

She turned to walk away, her eyes filling with tears when his voice called out softly, "Hey Relena! What are you doing tomorrow?"

That’s it! My first 1xR fic! Whadda think? Okay, I know its really rushed and slopped together, but it was just an idea that popped into my head (grilled cheese was not supposed to happen though). I know its not REALLY humorous, but then again its not totally serious, U know? Well…tell me whatcha think, but no flames!!!!!!
